GOVERNMENT DEPLORES BOYERS LUDICROUS ALLEGATIONS |
Govt Media Services
20 June 2007 Honiara
The Grand Coalition for Change Government has deplored the statement by the Opposition MP, Peter Boyers (pictured in the center handing a cheque to the Bilikiki Beach Soccer Team last year) calling on Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare to step down over his comments on the $50,000 bribe the Opposition Group paid to a government minister.
“We stand by the Prime Minister’s statement describing the Opposition’s bribery action as an evil strategy and call on Mr Boyers to stop making outrageous accusations against the Prime Minister in the media,” the ministers and the backbenchers in the Grand Coalition for Change government said.
“The statement by the Prime Minister did not at all warrant a resignation. Lest Mr Boyers does not know, bribery is an evil act and for him to describe the Prime Minister’s description of the Opposition’s bribery action as an insult to the people of Solomon Islands is totally ridiculous.”
The Grand Coalition for Change Government said it is a God-fearing government that was elected into office through the principles of democracy.
“We owe our survival and successes to God and nobody else.
“We together with Prime Minister Sogavare also condemn Mr Boyer’s ludicrous allegations that the Prime Minister takes advice from a witch doctor.
“We challenge Mr Boyers to come forward with proofs for those allegations he has made in the media,” the government ministers and backbenchers said.
The ministers and backbenchers of the Grand Coalition for Change Government said they firmly support the strong leadership of Mr Sogavare and would work together with the Prime Minister to achieve government’s policy objectives and goals. |
